More than 50 transportation and supply chain executives met Oct. 18 at LifeWay Christian Resources offices in Nashville, Tenn., to network and learn from other shippers.

Here are just a few highlights shared during the shipper's panel discussion from these panelists:

Carolynn Riggs-Farrar , Director of Outbound Logistics at Dell, a world leading supplier of PCs, has been with the company for approximately 13 years. Prior to her career at Dell, she was a supervisor at Bridgestone/Firestone, and received her degree in chemistry at Mississippi State University. She commented that Dell has been working closely with carriers on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to ensure top performance in transportation, and on special initiatives such as zone skipping to reduce cycle times. "We are consistently looking for new ways to do things better and more efficiently," she said.

Brian Seagraves
, CSCP, Transportation Manager at Warranty Logistics, and has responsibilities for all new warranty logistics for Asurion Insurance Services. He has more than 20 years logistics experience and is very involved in specialty carriers as well as LTL pricing. Seagraves said he anticipates rate increases in 2013, driven in part by a recovering housing market that will have an impact on capacity. "Dealing with a capacity shortage will be one of the lead challenges for shippers in the coming months," he said.

Jace Martin , Senior Carrier Development Manager at OHL, a major provider of transportation, warehousing and fulfillment, customs brokerage, and air and ocean services to shippers. He has more than 26 years of LTL transportation experience at OHL, Roadway, SAIA, and Central Freight Lines, and agreed that he has concerns about capacity in the future. "We're looking at new ways to create more capacity, such as TOFC, to tap into more capacity for our customers."
