Zollars, Jindel to Address SMC³ Winter Meeting
Industry experts take a closer look at transportation industry consolidation
SMC³ has assembled several of the nation's foremost authorities on transportation industry consolidation to speak at its 50th Annual Winter Meeting, scheduled to take place January 25-26, 2005 in Atlanta.
The meeting, entitled, "Shifting the Balance: Predicting the Impact of Industry Change," will look at how the industry might change in the near-term, examining business strategies for managing the effects of consolidation and analyzing which industry segments will experience significant change.
SMC³ offers its annual winter and summer meetings to transportation industry professionals as part of the company's commitment to industry education; every meeting is open to both SMC³ members and non-members. Presented in a conference format, each meeting provides crucial business information through expert speakers.
"Whether you're a carrier, shipper, 3PL or any other type of service provider to this industry - consolidation will impact the way you do business," Jack E. Middleton, president and CEO of SMC³, said.
Featured speaker William D. (Bill) Zollars, chairman, president and CEO of Yellow Roadway Corporation, will discuss Yellow Roadway's outlook on customer trends, industry dynamics and future direction. He will comment on how changing shipment and distribution characteristics along with customer demands have impacted the LTL industry and explore Yellow Roadway's evolution and direction for future success.
Other speakers will address opportunities and challenges within the industry. A key portion of the event will examine business strategies for managing the effects of consolidation.
Satish Jindel, principal consultant, SJ Consulting Group Inc., will discuss the competitive make-up of the industry and the best survival strategies for revitalizing business plans in the face of competition.
Supply chain trends and strategies heavily influence consolidation in the transportation industry. John H. Vande Vate, executive director of Georgia Institute of Technology's Executive Masters International Logistics Program, will address the radical redesign of supply chains by multinational firms and describe the holistic business impact of supply chain trends.
Nationally-recognized transportation attorney John R. Bagileo, principal, The Law Firm of John R. Bagileo; energy expert Michael J. Economides, professor, Cullen College of Engineering, University of Houston; and renowned economic forecaster Donald Ratajczak will predict how economic trends, energy costs, political factors and legislation will affect operations within the transportation industry.
"Each of our Winter Meeting speakers has valuable insights that will lead to better decision-making at all levels of an organization," said Middleton. "By themselves, any one of these speakers would be worth the trip to Atlanta."
