Dole Fresh Vegetables Named NASSTRAC 2007 Shipper of the Year

MINNEAPOLIS, MN—NASSTRAC recently announced that Dole Fresh Vegetables, Inc. received the NASSTRAC Shipper of the Year award. The division’s parent company, Dole Food Company, Inc., reported revenues in 2006 of $6.2 billion, and is the world's largest producer and marketer of high-quality fresh fruit and fresh vegetables.

NASSTRAC, a non-profit association that provides education, advocacy, provider relations, and networking for transportation and logistics professionals, created the award 16 years ago to annually recognize a shipper that has demonstrated excellent in recent transportation and/or logistics strategies. A wide range of manufacturers, retailers, and other companies managing freight through their supply chains have received the award through the years.

Dole Fresh Vegetables received the award specifically because of their creative use in leveraging technology to proactively solve potential problems in their supply chain, according to Brian Everett, NASSTRAC’s executive director. “With key goals of food safety and process efficiencies, Dole recently went through the process of examining their core competencies. Today, Dole tracks time and quantities, and is using this intelligence to better understand how their products move through the system and their supply chains. Creating efficiencies and effective processes in transportation management are qualities that NASSTRAC encourages in its members.”

“We began looking at both our inbound and outbound shipping operations for vulnerabilities and soft spots,” said Robert Engle, NASSTRAC member and former vice president of supply chain for Dole Fresh Vegetables, Inc. “Like all produce shippers, we were concerned about loads that would arrive warm or product that might not hold up as well as we would have liked.” To view this article in its entirety, visit http://www.NASSTRAC.org,>http://www.NASSTRAC.org, click Awards/Shipper of the Year" and "View Past Award Recipients."
