Snap-On Tools, ClosetMaid, L’Oreal USA Among New NASSTRAC Members

NASSTRAC Continues To Attract New Shippers As It Expands Into All Transportation Modes

NASSTRAC continues to attract new shipper members as a direct result of recently broadening its coverage to cover all modes and market segments of transportation. New members joining in recent weeks include Mackief Baker, Logistics & Transportation Manager for Snap-On Tools; Walt Bendell, Transportation Manager for ClosetMaid; and Bob Russo, Director of Transportation for L’Oreal USA.

A shipper’s association founded in 1952, NASSTRAC historically had been focused primarily on LTL, small package, and parcel through advocacy, education, provider relationships, and professional networking initiatives. In the fall of 2005, NASSTRAC broadened its charter at NASSTRAC’s to cover all transportation modes and market segments.

“NASSTRAC has been making a concentrated effort in recent months to connect with members on their changing responsibilities and challenges, and how they mirror marketplace trends,” said executive director Brian Everett. “Our research fully supports the rationale of our decision to broaden our scope, as many of our members are now decision-makers in all modes of transportation and logistics. The association continues to simply react to shifts in the marketplace.”

Reacting to market changes has been the base of NASSTRAC’s culture since its beginning more than 50 years ago. On July 1, 1952, more than 100 shippers gathered and strategized a plan to offset a surcharge of $1.50 on each LTL shipment. That meeting resulted in the creation of NASSTRAC, a national association established to represent and protect shipper interests. Later, the association was involved in legislative activity which led to the Motor Carrier Act of 1980, which partially deregulated LTL motor carriers. From collaboration and legislative activity in the early days to the integration of an educational and networking platform in the 1990s, NASSTRAC continually has focused on the constantly changing needs of the transportation industry.

“Although we continue to provide support, services and education in our historic core areas of LTL, small package and parcel, we have been bringing members extended value in recent years in all areas of transportation, ranging from full truckload to containerization and global logistics,” said Everett.

NASSTRAC continues to be the association leader in education within the transportation industry, according to Gail Rutkowski, director of operations for AIMS Logistics, who is NASSTRAC’s current president. The association will hold its annual conference and exhibition May 6-9, 2007, at the Renaissance Orlando Resort at Seaworld in Fla., which will feature educational sessions with topics ranging from technology, transportation issues, global logistics and outsourcing to finance, security and professional development. It also features a comprehensive exhibition of transportation, logistics and supply chain management providers.
