Critical Transportation Advocacy Issues: "The Need To Stand Up For Trucking"

Wednesday, May 16, 2012 • Embassy Suites, Southfield, MI

Stand up for trucking

More than 70% of freight shipments move by truck because of its efficient, reliable, cost-effective service. Yet, key legislative and public policy issues currently being considered have the potential to increase your transportation costs up to 10% each year. With existing challenges in a slowly recovering economy, high fuel prices, roadway congestion and a driver shortage, Corporate America needs to remain competitive and simply cannot tolerate such devastating cost increases.

As a leader in opposing unwise or excessively burdensome regulation, NASSTRAC (along with the CSCMP Detroit Roundtable) is hosting a luncheon May 16 to provide networking, and to help educate shippers and providers on these critical issues:

  • Changes by the FMCSA to the truck driver hours of service and how to effectively prepare your supply chain for these new rules.
  • New concerns over FMCSA's interests in extending its regulation to manufacturing and distribution companies - and what this could mean for you.
  • Truck size and weight limitations are being evaluated for increased legislation. What are the risks to your operation and success if the Safe Highways and Infrastructure Protection Act (SHIPA) is passed?
  • A long-term infrastructure investment plan has long been needed to relieve traffic congestion and to keep America competitive. What will a lack of such a plan mean to your operation and productivity?

Shipper panel includes Candace Holowicki, Director of Global Transportation & Logistics, TriMas Corporation; and Mike Silvio, Director of Supply Chain Management, Cooper Standard. Moderated by Mike Regan, President, TranzAct Technologies and Chairman of NASSTRAC Advocacy Committee.
