New England Motor Freight (NEMF) executives from their New Jersey headquarters along with Maryland’s Washington County Commissioners attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday December 19th at the company’s new cross-dock truck terminal located at 16503 Hunters Green Parkway in Hagerstown to recognize the move.
"We’ve been in this area for 12 years, and we had grown to the point that we could no longer expand,” NEMF Chief Operating Officer Thomas Connery said. "This location is closer to our customer base, it puts us closer to the interstate, and allows us to push further into West Virginia.”
The terminal is in the Hunters Green Business Park, which is off of Hopewell Road and can be accessed by using Exit 5 off of Interstate 81 to Halfway Boulevard, within a mile of the Interstate 70 and Interstate 81 intersection.
NEMF was also the first company to utilize the Pad-Ready Site Incentive program in Washington County, MD, which allowed Hunters Green to start creating the lot before site approval and also gave it tax incentives, Brad Fulton of NEMF said. "We felt that it helped us jump-start the project,” Fulton said.
In addition to the executives and commissioners, NEMF Chairman and CEO Mike Shevell was in attendance.
NEMF was originally located near the Hagerstown Regional Airport on Industry Drive before moving into its new location Saturday, Dec. 8, Terminal Manager John Secrist said. "It’s a huge benefit not just to the Hagerstown area but to our employees and the opportunity to continue to grow here in Washington County,” he said. "With the growth and quality of the work that our employees put together, our office staff, Mr. Shevell, and (Thomas) Connery saw the potential of expanding that operation and the possibility of adding more business.” Secrist added that the company will be looking to add 30 more employees in Hagerstown at the start of the new year. Currently there are more than 80 employees there.
